Gun Show Report - Dayton Ohio

Went to Bill Goodman's Gun & Knife Show in Dayton, Ohio on Saturday ("Shoot a buddy, stab a friend!"). Hadn't been to one of these for a while. The joint was packed. Really didn't expect to see that large of a crowd on a sub-20 degree day. Lots of guys bringing guns in to sell.

I went to pick up ammo, not guns, although I did happen to see two Chinese SKS's for $275 each, which sort of surprised me, as I normally see them priced much higher. Ammo prices have certainly come down to some extent versus a year ago. I picked up some Silver Bear HP 7.62x39 for $5/box of 20 and some Russian-made .45 Auto FMJ for $16.95/box of 50. In the local gun shops, I normally see 7.62x39 for $8 and .45 for $20, at best.

I'm beginning to suspect the ammo manufacturers have finally caught up with demand, coupled with fewer people buying due to unemployment/financial concerns. Thus the slight drop in price. Would that be a reasonable assumption?

I think you're correct. Starting to see more and more ammo around here. The local Air Force base had just about every pistol ammo available except for .45 Long Colt. They even had .380 Auto, though they were a couple of the high end brands like Gold Dot. Nothing you'd want to piss away at the range. At the local Wally World, there's almost always 9mm and .40 S&W on the shelf.

Gun prices are a toss up. I've seen some models go up in price, and others come down.

Your assumption about the economy is also valid. Even further, I also think people are starting to believe that Zerobama has enough problems without stepping on the gun control landmine, an issue that's a proven loser in most regions of the country. And that concern is what prompted the huge run in guns and ammo in the first place. The pendulum's starting to swing back toward complacency....

^^^^^^^^^^

Obama wont touch guns this year

If he does

He will be the only democrap left in DC after the midterms.

I am glad prices are coming down though.

Last year was scary as hell.

You really though it was just a matter of time before the hammer came down.

I'm glad to see he pendulum swing back. I mainly avoided the panic buying of 2008-2009 of guns and ammo, beside a couple F2F buys (always in the market for those!). It's only been this year that I've been in a gun store in a serious buying mode. I think the bottom is in (or near) on firearm pricing, so I'm diverting funds that I would be using to buy PMs, to fill the holes in my gun list. I hope to finish it up this year.
